Welcome to the first Mainsheet of the 2015 WSC sailing season. We had a great turnout for the yearly cleanup, pier placing and barge launching party. Many thanks to all who were present, working hard to accomplish a lot of work in a very short time. Thanks also go to Neil Dickey and his band of kitchen helpers who put together a lovely meal for the end of the day.
The Development Project is complete and now we are able to play. We have had two weekends of sailing already and one of training, with coaching provided by Alberta Sailing Association. Although I was not able to be there, I heard that the training was excellent and the weather very cooperative.
Next Saturday June 13, will be our first potluck of the season. For those in the know, these are a monthly occurrence and are a fantastic opportunity to meet other members and have a fabulous dinner in the process. Each family brings enough for a few and all spoils are shared. We have had some very interesting dishes brought in the past and there is always something that everybody loves. Following the potluck on Saturday we will be launching our new website which has been under development for the past few months. It should be a great night. Please come out.
The following, Saturday June 20, is our mandatory for all Safety Training Day. We plan to start at 10 am and lunch will be provided. The evening will finish with our yearly evening races, The Solstice Regatta. This series will begin at 7 pm and may go all night if the light holds. Who knows for sure?
Saturday June 27 is another big event day with the Memorial & Anniversary Cup which will be followed by the Commodore’s Sail Past. For anyone who has not attended previously, there is a passing of the torch so to speak from the rear commodore to the current commodore followed by a reception where there is an opportunity to mingle and meet some past members as well as current members. This event is usually well attended and I hope this year will be as well.
Finally I want to let everyone know about Founder’s Regatta and training camp, July 2-5. More info will follow in this Mainsheet.
It sure sounds like there is a lot going on in June. I hope to see many out for the racing and for some pleasure sailing as well.
