Commodore’s Update -Stage 2

With the Province moving to Stage 2 of the relaunch, WSC is looking forward to another great sailing season – something that looked unlikely only a few weeks ago! Club facilities are open and sailing activities can begin. We do need to stay vigilant and ensure that our members stay safe and that we adhere to provincial coronavirus restrictions. Attendance at the Club will continue to be limited to 45 members, and members will be required to book online (or by contacting the Club Manager) and self-assess for COVID-19 symptoms. As we receive more information from the Province, we will adjust the WSC COVID-19 Protocol to reflect the new reality and update members accordingly.
We had a fantastic turnout for Cleanup on June 6. Thanks to everyone who came out, and to James and Corinne for taking care of the food. It was delicious! Many hands made light work, and the dock and launches went in quickly (and the water was almost warm!). We are ready to sail.
The Club will be offering fun sail training at our usual racing times (2:00 Saturday and 10:00 Sunday) for June. Big thanks to Peter and Jordyce for volunteering to run these activities!
We will review for July, with the hope that we might resume competitive racing (while respecting Provincial directives and social distancing requirements, of course).

Regarding other events, we have tentatively decided to move the Commodore’s Sail Past and Anniversary Cup from its traditional date in early July to the August long weekend (ie. Saturday August 2). Sail Week has been rescheduled for August 10-14 with the hope that restrictions will relax enough to allow this signature event to proceed with maximum enjoyment. This plan is still tentative based on how things go with the Province’s COVID-19 phases, and the Executive will keep you updated as we hear from the Province. Stay tuned!

As always, please contact me or any other member of the Executive with any suggestions, comments or concerns as we manage this extraordinary sailing season.
Happy sailing!
